1. When did you join the Segmed team and what were you doing prior to joining?
I joined the Segmed team because of the mission of the company, the values, and the founders. I am really aligned with the values and must be in order to do a good job in Talent. It is important to me that the founders are authentic, surround themselves with good people and listen to them. I find the startup environment at Segmed to be refreshing. Many things make it different, like work life balance, people who are kind and smart, and a team that listens to one another with care. Prior to joining Segmed I was leading Talent Acquisition at a startup that grew from series B to series D during my tenure. They quadrupled in size and then acquired 2 companies following the organic growth.
2. What is your favorite part about working at Segmed?
My favorite part about Segmed is that I joined and got to create processes within the Talent function. It has been fun and challenging and creative. I have been able to explain and implement my vision for the People Ops function in everything from compensation to recruiting to talent management and learning & development. I am able to carve time out to learn and really think through an approach but also implement quickly and iterate on process. I appreciate the autonomy, feedback, and partnership that I have.
3. How is it to work on a completely remote team?
I really enjoy working on a completely remote team, but I suppose it isn’t for everyone. I am more of an introvert in terms of getting energy from quiet time, so it works for me. I do still get to collaborate and work with team members. I am looking forward to our team retreat though in order to spend more time with everyone. We do fun things together virtually, and it is definitely more enjoyable the more open you are to building relationships that way.
4. Are you messy or organized?
Oh my goodness! To say that I am organized is an understatement. A place for everything and everything in its place. Some may call it OCD but I call it part of my charm :) If the room, house, desk is messy, so is my head. I like a calm and organized work environment and life.
5. What is a fun fact about you no one knows?
I think many people on the team know this now, but I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (continuing credits aren’t up to date), and I owned a yoga studio for about 3 years. I ran the business and taught yoga alongside other instructors. My business partner ran the Pilates side. We were a good match for one another and had a lot of fun along the way. I still have many close friends from that time of my life. I started the studio mostly because I wanted to teach yoga to kids, which is super fun and they are really open to it. Surprisingly, my son’s teenage boys hockey team was all about meditation and relaxation following tournament games! I also taught at an inner city school where the students were eager to learn and amazingly receptive. I loved feeling like I could contribute to giving kids and adolescents breathing, balance, and coping skills.
6. What do you enjoy doing on your free time?
I love to read and garden. I am a lifelong student, so I always love taking any kind of classes I can find of interest, or listening to podcasts, books, etc on anything from professional development to art history. I like to explore art museums very much and then figure out which art will make me feel happy in my own environment. I like to spend time with those I love playing games, watching shows together, building puzzles, eating good food. I like to exercise and meditate. Those 2 things always make me feel better.
